La Plagne Thrills Guests With Bobsleigh Track

La Plagne has opened it's Olympic bobsleigh run to the public to give those thrill seekers the chance to test out speeds up to 80km/h. The four seater "Bob Raft" allows novices to test the water with the comfort of knowing the steering and breaking is done for them. There's also the opportunity to have a go in a "Taxi Bob" which is guided by a professional pilot and can reach speeds of 110 km/h - yet still a mere 20km/h slower than the pros!

At the beginning of the season, there was an organised run for all the local tour oporators, including Mark Warner. Our very own ski hosts and Shelly from the CS team from the Chalethotel Christina, went along and had a go. It was all filmed by TF1 for the reginal news.

Take a look at the clip and see the guys flash their MW jackets!

Players do not want "big name" for GB captain- Draper

LTA chief executive Roger Draper believes John Lloyd's exit as Davis Cup captain has left a "great opportunity" for a young British coach.

Lloyd resigned after GB lost to Lithuania a fortnight ago - his 5th straight Davis Cup reverse.

Former British number one Greg Rusedski is the favourit to replace him but Draper hinted otherwise. "They want somebody who is embedded in British tennis. It's a great opportunity for some young British coaches to come through.

Andy's Defence

Andy Murray will begin his defence of one of the biggest titles of his career next week as the Sony Ericsson Open gets underway in Miami. The Brit defeated current world number two Novak Djokovic to win the trophy last year, the result being that he heads to Crandon Park with serious ranking points to defend. And with the rest of the world's top 10 entered (minus Nikolay Davydenko) it's looking tough.

Ski Cross - We Love it!

Ski cross seems to be the event of the Winter Olympics. We have been griped to it in the office. So what is it? Competitors race down a specifically adapted course to encompass both natural and artificial terrain including jumps, rollers and banks.

American Daron Rahlves has described it as; 'Motocross on skis with a little NASCAR and bull riding thrown in there.' It's certainly not for the faint hearted. Check out some youtube links below.

New Turkey Resorts

We’re just back from a whistle-stop trip to Turkey to see the 2 new resorts and they look fantastic. The Sea Garden is classic Mark Warner and will be great value as an all inclusive hotel. It’s selling fast already so you’ll have to get in quick to try it out this summer.

The Select Maris however is just spectacular. It has to be the most idyllic location we’ve seen in the Med for many years. The hotel is built into a cliff that overlooks 5 private beaches and a perfectly secluded private bay , perfect for watersports. The hotel oozes quality from every pore and will be a wonderful holiday for those looking for something special without going long haul.
Can’t wait for the season to start!

MW

What Price an Olympic Gold?

MW was disappointed to hear the sad news that the British Ski and Snowboard Federation fell into administration in recent weeks. Happily British Olympic chiefs have guaranteed that all the athletes affected will still compete in Vancouver. What has hit home is that the future of all our elite Winter Sports competitors has been thrown into doubt over a figure similar to John Terry’s monthly pay packet. MW is guessing it could be a while before we see Team GB with gold in the downhill.

Adult Only Holidays - Club Mark Warner

In conversation with Mark Warner guests who have travelled with us for many years you will stumble upon misty eyed tales of misspent summer holidays at one of Mark Warner’s bastions of “Adult Only” holidays – Abamar, Porticcio and Palm Beach amongst others. Here, single adults and groups of friends would gather for 2 or 3 weeks a season for watersports, sun worshipping and partying. The days were short, the nights were long and the stories are now legendary.

In recent years economic realities have made it increasingly difficult for MW to continue to offer Adult only holidays in the summer. These weeks worked best on off-peak dates with very low single occupancy charges for rooms. Unfortunately whole hotels who can still afford to operate on this basis are now few and far between and no longer of the quality standard that MW expects for its guests.

To try and compensate for the loss of these much loved holidays we introduced our first Club Mark Warner weeks last year to give our adult guest experience a boost. They were an instant hit and so we’ve rolled the idea into summer 2010.

If you’re looking for a fun adult-friendly holiday then a Club Mark Warner week is a social diary full of activities and reasons for adults to get together. The Club organiser will reserve group tables for dinner, put together quiz nights or gather everyone for a nightclub trip into town. It’s all very low key but great fun and of course in addition to all the watersports, tennis and other activities available during the day.

We can’t deny it … there will undoubtedly be families staying at the hotel at the same time as a Club Mark Warner week. But what we can guarantee is that once you’ve arrived you’ll barely notice the kids are around. They’ve got their own beach, a fantastic daily activity programme and evening childcare to ensure adult-only socialising in the bars and restaurants at night.
The spirit of Palm Beach lives on in Lakitira and San Agostino this summer.
